Video Editing Cut to The Beat

Exit Interview

1. Comment about your work ethic in this course.
I put effort into my projects and worked for the majority of the time. While I did get off track sometimes I did my best to focus on my work and not to spend a lot of time away from the projects. I believe my work ethic was good, but could use some improvement with time management on some occasions.

2. Which assignments did you enjoy and why?

I particularly enjoyed the Minecraft assignment and the Raft Game Journalism assignment. The Minecraft assignment I enjoyed due to the creativity and art in the project in creating a fictional city or concept city, while I worked solo in this assignment instead of in a group, I did get a lot done, and it shows. The Raft assignment was enjoyable for the reason that it was a fun and enjoyable survival game that posed a challenge. The only problem was that some of the items couldn't be posted or on time due to it having to involve luck for some events to occur in the game.

3. Which assignments did you struggle with and why?

Thunkable. It was an absolute nightmare, it barely worked and was such a pain to even follow the tutorials since they used a entirely different version in the video and that version didn't even work. It was long, frustrating, and a somewhat waste of time. Thunkable was the only project that I struggled with or had a difficulty completing.

Raft Game Journalism Day 4 Part 2

 Hook
It can be thrown farther than the plastic hook and can mine resources faster. It is made out of scrap metal instead of plastic and has a higher durability. It helps collect more resources due to the ability to throw it farther. I built it because it was an upgrade and it allowed me to collect more barrels. It works great when diving and collecting more resources really helps me expand the raft, I think it is worth building this as soon as you can.

Storage Container
It can store more than twice as much items as the normal storage container. It takes up more space to place and costs more expensive resources, but it is far superior than the standard container. It really helps when you progress alter on in the game and are creating more and more resources, instead of having to drop other items to make room you can just store them in the container. You definitely need this if you want to make real progress in the game.

               Water Purifier
It can Purify larger quantities of water at once. The starter purifier can only purify one cup of water at a time, while the more advanced purifier can purify a while bottle of water at once. Now I have a more steady supply of water, and won't dehydrate. I built it because I had built the water bottle but I wasn't able to use it to its full extent due to the old purifier only being able to fill it up 1/6 at a time. It was worth the expensive materials  used to make it because now I no longer need to use wood to purify water and it can purify larger quantities at once.

                      Grill

It can cook multiple pieces of meat at once or one larger fish. It's bigger than the normal grill and can hold more wood. It helps create a steady supply of cooked food instead of having to cook one at a time. I built it because I had a stockpile of catfish and couldn't cook it on the standard grill. It was definitely worth building it as now I have already cooked food in storage so I have something to tie me over in case I need to collect more food.

Bed
It allows me to regenerate more health than the standard bed. It is raised up off the ground and is bigger, plus the health regeneration is far greater. It helps survive shark attacks or diving as you can gain health from lying down. I built it because I do more diving and get damaged more often so I wanted something better. It works better at night as more time passes and you heal more, but in the daytime the effect is kinda slow, but is faster than the standard bed.

Raft Game Journalism Day 3

Raft Play Day 4

  1. Build a water purifier
  2. Build a grill
  3. Build a cup for water
  4. Build fishing rod to get fish for food
  5. Build bed to pass the night
  6. Build a hammer to expand/repair your raft
  7. Build a spear to defend your raft from shark attacks
  8. Build a research table
  9. Expand raft
  10. Build a sail

The best feature of the raft is the second floor. It allows for more space and safety from shark attacks. Also using a ladder to get up saved me space as well instead of using stairs.

Raft Play Day 3

I built a second story on my raft so I could climb islands, and I placed a birds nest up there to collect feathers.

Tomorrow I'm going to focus more on building the raft and a forge. I've mainly been trying to raid other rafts or land on islands to get more stuff.

I built my raft in a square and kept my most important items in the middle so a shark can't sneak up on the raft and destroy my resources. I also added a second floor for more space, protection, and the ability to explore islands.

Raft Play Day 2

I spent my time gathering wood for a research table, and eventually built one. I was also attacked by a shark twice, and I looted two abandoned rafts. After researching what I could and gathering the resources for another grill, I built a planting box and started planting beets. I was coming close to starvation though, due to my fishing rod breaking as well as my hook. This forced me to grab whatever resources were nearby in order to rebuild my hook and fishing rod. I also built a sail so I could travel faster and in whatever direction I wanted, granted the wind was blowing that way. I built a bed as well so I didn't have to wait all night in the dark, but unfortunately sleeping drains some of your thirst and hunger bar. About five minutes after building the sail and expanding the raft, a huge storm blew threw and I almost lost the raft after being knocked off it.

I learned that you really have to manage your resources in order to successfully survive. i was caught in the heat of the moment and built a research table as soon as I could, but this used up all my wood and shortly after my hook broke as well as my fishing rod. A tip for players who build a planting box is two also build another water purifier, otherwise you'll be juggling your water between yourself and the plants. Another tip for the planting box is to water the plants when the box is full otherwise it requires more water, and also when you harvest the plants make sure to replant the crops instead of eating the two collected.

Tomorrow I'm going to focus on acquiring and building more advanced items; Unfortunately, this requires exploring islands so I'm going to have to build an anchor. I'm also going to invest in some collectors so I can have another means of gathering resources in case my hook breaks again.
I extended the raft to a 4x4, added a sail, bed, research table, another grill, storage container, planter, cat, shoe, and a torch.

Raft Game Journalism Day 1

Raft is a survival game where you are stranded on a raft in the middle of the ocean with nothing but a hook attached to a rope. You are surrounded by debris that you collect to survive, but since the shark infested waters aren't too friendly, you use the hook to grab resources from the water. The obvious main focus is to survive, not explore, and hope to be rescued by building a radio. Of course building a radio from garbage you find floating in the ocean isn't going to be easy.

Sharks attack your raft from time to time, and makes swimming dangerous

You collect debris by throwing this hook out into the ocean or using your hands to grab nearby items floating by. The items consist of a barrel, plank of wood, plastic tube, plastic jug, plastic crate, and palm leaves. Barrels supply random items, but most importantly they supply scrap metal and food occasionally. Planks of wood are used for most crafting and building. All of the plastic in the ocean is used for replacing your hook when it's broken and for making cups to hold water. Palm leaves are the second most used resource next to wood, and especially since you can make rope out of them.

Raft Play Day 1

As soon as I started I set my sights on collecting wood, palm leaves, and barrels for scrap metal. I knew that I wouldn't last long without water so my plan was to make a water purifier right off the bat.  Unfortunately it didn't go as plan and I accidentally made a grill instead of a water purifier so now I had to race the clock in order to avoid dehydration. After wasting more time trying to get the materials for the purifier a shark attacked and now my raft was getting smaller. Now I had a steady supply of fresh water, but now I was facing another problem, starvation. I was surviving mainly on vegetables collected from barrels, but it was not enough to survive. I noticed I could craft a fishing so now I had to gather resources for that. Now with a steady supply of water, I had to divide my time to fishing and resource gathering in order to survive.

I learned that water should be your main focus, and food second. Only then can you focus on the other aspects like expanding and exploring. Sure the sharks attack your dwindling raft, and now you have only so much room on it ;however, if you waste those resources on rebuilding the raft instead of focusing on those resources you will die. Things always start out rough, and I learned not to trust land or other rafts. The first time I tried to explore another raft I made a paddle to travel close enough to climb it because I thought I could use it as a raft instead, but the raft began sinking and I was forced to return to my raft.

Tomorrow I'm going to focus more on gathering food, and try to expand either the raft or my ability to collect resources. I was thinking about doubling up on the purifiers and grills so I can have more food and water readily available. If I am going to expand the raft I was thinking about expanding the sides more for resource collecting or making planters so I can grow food.
